We two form a multitude.
Any company with something to sell can tell you how romantic their offering is. Travel is no different. Many ads across my computer screen tout the amazing Romantic possibilities of their resort, cruise line or get-away location.
Judging from the ads, the typical Romantic vacation includes palm trees, beaches, sunshine, warm weather, elegant dining and a massage. An overwater bungalow adds extra points. If that appeals to you, that’s great. Call me right away!
But if you find some parts of that less than ideal, I urge you to ponder what makes a trip (or resort, cruise, dinner, or afternoon) Romantic?
Would you find a historic country inn (canopy beds and fireplaces) more Romantic than the sun and sand?
Maybe vintage Art Deco hotels charm you more.
Do you long to stay in resorts where the rich and famous mingled, a la Sunset Boulevard?
Or would you rather visit the hottest new hotels and clubs in New York, Miami, or Los Angeles?
Another blood-stirring idea is to walk where couples have traveled for centuries, watching the sun rise or set over that same sea or landscape.
All of us respond to the Romance we see in a variety of settings. (Fortunately that difference keeps us from all going to the same place on Valentine’s Day!) The important question to keep in mind when planning your own special Romantic getaway is what warms the hearts of the two people most involved – you and your loved one.
A destination can carry the aura of Romance because it brings back special memories for the two of you. If you and your love are almost always surrounded by competing demands for attention, spending any amount of time alone together can seem very Romantic, even at the local Holiday Inn.® Perhaps there is a special place you have been reserving for someday – when you can afford it better or you have more time.
Stop for a moment and consider: Are you at The Right Place in your life NOW? This might be the time to do that Romantic thing you have delayed so long. There might never be a better time.
Call me if you want to use travel to put some extra Romance in your life.
I would love to hear from you what your most Romantic travel moments have been – or would be. Even if it’s a “you had to be there” sort of moment, I would love to hear!
Boundaries divide. Travel unites.
